WHAT DOES SUSTAINABLE FASHION MEAN TO CHERIE?
“Sustainable fashion is a paradox term. Sustainability is to pertain a system that maintains itself by using techniques that allow for continual reuse, while fashion is always time bound in it’s aesthetic, fueling a desire for consumption and/or creation of the new. The goal is surely to to have fashion items which leaves no trace, but we both know that’s not the reality we live in. What we can do is to be aware that all our actions have an effect, and to take care that these are ones we can stand behind. For me this means looking first to see if I can find an item I want second hand before buying it new, it means questioning the added value the item will give my wardrobe and every day life and asking about the brands production standards before buying to ensure I am supporting a fair production chain.”
ABOUT
Cherie has spent the majority of her life immersed in fashion from one angle or another. As a teenager she began in the modeling industry, then styling during her fashion design studies, and began photographing professionally shortly after. During her years as a Creative Director of a e-commerce focused fashion retailer and brand, she came to realize her deep desire to make actions meet values and hens quit fast fashion and founded SUSTAINABLE FASHION MATTERZ (2017). At heart she is a creative mind who just wants to have a good time with everyone else involved in sharing this planet.
