#WATERMATTERZ

EVERY T-SHIRT MAKES A DIFFERENCE

Water is the resource we are most dependent on, yet the practices of the fashion industry are one of the most polluting. By 2025, more than 2.8 billion people in 48 countries will face water stress or conditions of scarcity. By the middle of this century, this will have reached almost 7 billion.

A standard washing machine uses 155 liters of water per load, but a highly efficient washing machine uses less 105 liters of water. On average 5 shirts = 1kg of laundry. An average laundry machine holds 8-12 kg, meaning 40-60 shirts. Means a second hand item which is washed before sold needs an average of 3,1 liters of water.

2,700L WATER = 1 NEW T-SHIRT = 870 SECOND HAND T-SHIRTS

When we take the environmental impact of our purchases into account we find more sustainable possibilities. Today some of the most accessible and affordable solutions to dress yourself sustainably are buying second hand, swapping and repairing what you already own.

DISRUPTING BLACK FRIDAY

FOOD FASHION LEFTOVERS

Together with Tainá Guedes, founder of Food Art Week, Camila Soares and Lydia Maurer, founder of PHYLYDA, we created a new campaign on the topic of fashion & food waste. We are calling all brands to use Black Friday to sell off their old collections, sample pieces or products with small flaws which they are not able to sell otherwise. This way we save fashion from being wasted and brands can still attract customers to their shops without devaluing their current collections, or selling at a price which they cannot afford. We collaborated with the mindful brands PHYLYDA, Toino Abel, This is Her and Julia Leifert.

WHO MADE MY CLOTHES?

Global campaign for fair fashion happening year around with a special focus on the last week of April, which is the anniversary of the Rana Plaza factory collapse in Bangladesh, killing 1,138 garment industry workers. Here's how to join Fashion Revolution.

2020

On 24. April 2013 a garment factory in Bangladesh collapsed, killing over 1,100 workers. Workers who have made our clothes. People we never met, yet wore what they made daily. If you would like to help support garment workers effected by the current crisis, who are without, work, money food or the luxury of social distancing I recommend to donate to https://femnet.de/ a 20€ donation will feed a family of 5 for two weeks. Here you can find more solution focused content on the fashion industry: https://www.sustainablefashionmatterz.com

2019

Just in time for the upcoming Black Friday we are releasing this video from Fashion Revolution Germany which captures many known Berliners sharing their thoughts on the movement and the events surrounding the demonstration, reminding us that Fashion Revolution is every day.

#MYCLOSETMATTERZ

Join us in sharing your favourite pieces of clothing and the story behind them with #MYCLOSETMATTERZ 🗣💗. Together with you we want to talk about loving our clothes and spread the message that we don't always need to shop the newest trends, because that has nothing to do with a true garment love relationship. Fine interviews on our IGTV channel.

WE NEVER STOP VOTING

The #WENEVERSTOPVOTING campaign started in 2017, right after the elections in Germany to remind that we actually vote every day, and with each purchase. You can participate by sending in portraits of yourself which we will overlay, and send back for you to post. Mail to hi@sustainablefashionmatterz.com with the subject WE NEVER STOP VOTING.
