WHAT DOES SUSTAINABLE FASHION MEAN TO EVELINA KAGANOVITCH?
I like to think of sustainability from all sides of the production chain. For the people involved in the creation of the product, it is their human right to work in conditions that do not harm their mental or physical health and be paid a wage that allows them and their families to live a comfortable life. For the environment, who cannot fight back, we need to respect the planet we live on and stop treating it as though it were a single-use plastic. Like any other person, treat it with dignity and respect.
As a consumer, do your research about who you buy from and what their values are. But prior to doing so, question whether you need more clothing, or does something in your wardrobe already fulfill that function? And always ask yourself ‘who made my clothes’ and ‘where do they go when I’m done with them?’
